Jem’s Mini – Gear Selector and Driveshaft Output Oil Leaks

There were a few little jobs that needed doing on Jem’s Mini that I’d been putting off but they’re much less of a chore now I have the lift so I was happy enough to get them done.

Jem’s Mini has always leaked oil but that’s kinda what Mini’s do and it’s never been so much that I was too bothered about it given what a pain of a job fixing the leaks was. Not so much trouble to deal with now so thought I’d see if I could at least fix a couple of the oil leaks.

The usual suspect for oil leaks on a Mini is where I started. The gear selector shaft. But first the oil had to come out.

Cut a piece of it off to use.

With the gear linkage removed the outer seal could be removed.

Next the inner seal which is a bit more tricky. I drilled a small hole in so I could thread a screw into it and pull it out.

It’s not necessary to remove this to replace the seal but I suspected oil was leaking from the gasket so I wanted to reseal it.
